NYS Thruway, Major Highways Reopen This Morning

Would that this enchanting scene is from a holiday card — it’s the Tappan Zee Bridge seen from an EarthCam® construction camera in Upper Grandview.

Because of the storm, major commuter highways including the NYS Thruway from Albany to the New York City line, and I-84 in the Hudson Valley, were closed at midnight; the Long Island Expressway in Nassau and Suffolk was also closed at midnight.

*While the Thruway reopened at 5 a.m., the LIE and I-84 between the Pennsylvania and Connecticut borders are scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m.

Safety measures and precautions per the governor’s State of Emergency declaration include:

“The contractor building the New NY Bridge, Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) will suspend all construction work on Friday due to the impending storm. TZC is currently securing all marine vessels at the project site. Crane booms and other equipment are being tied down, double checked and positioned to avoid any potential damage. TZC will maintain a small crew on site overnight to continuously monitor conditions and respond immediately to any problems.”

Stay safe, everyone, and if you don’t have to be on the roads, please stay inside.

I’d like to know what you think.
