Random Bridge Survey, Surprising Answers

Two questions. That’s it. Two very simple questions. “How much will the new bridge cost?” and “How long will it take to build?”

During an informal three-day survey, I asked 20 people what they know about the state’s project. Everyone has an opinion about it; these answers surprised me.

Dilbert

Three people knew the cost ($3.9 billion), and a few said it would take more than eight years to finish. Maybe they were thinking of 2018, when both spans will be open. There’s an eight in that number. Lots of guessing. One person asked if the contractor started building yet. Work began in October.

Most worried about the $14 toll scare, and knew the Palisades Center Mall is at Exit 12. Folks do pay attention to numbers. “We’re getting a lot of money from the government,” one person said. “Where will the rest come from?”

I’d like to know what you think.
