Windows, Doors for Noise Reduction Part of Good Neighbor Policy

This morning found me driving to Sleepy Hollow, which meant another chance to check the eastbound traffic pouring from the Thruway to I-287. And at 9:20 a.m., I wasn’t disappointed. Cars and trucks and buses and more cars, neatly packaged into the lanes.

And there I was, zipping along towards Exit 1. BRT is coming.

Meantime, there’s a bridge being built, and some say it’s noisy. One person commented via Twitter, “Pile driving at bridge today has topped ‘train horn’ level at monitoring stations, supposed to trigger shutdown, has not.”

To remedy this for 57 eligible private homeowners in Rockland and Westchester Counties, the project’s Community Benefits Program is paying each up to $30,000 for new sound-reducing windows and doors.

“This is all part of our ongoing good neighbor policy,” Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) Community Outreach Manager Carla Julian said. “We have been working with residents to minimize the impacts of construction noise on their daily lives as much as possible.”

Neither the Thruway Authority nor TZC is legally required to make this offer, the latest in addition to the more than $4 million TZC is paying — from a collaborative $20 million fund — to three local complexes in Tarrytown and South Nyack for similar mitigations.

I’d like to know what you think.
