Prep for Toll Gantry Construction Starts this Week

It’s not a toll both.

The temporary steel frame toll gantry will be built next year in South Nyack near Exit 10 over the southbound lanes. Project officials will test and begin to collect tolls electronically in 2016, the year the first span opens.

While Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) intalls utilities for the structure, the following lanes will close from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.:

• Tuesday, September 16 — on the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) a single lane of the northbound exit 10 (South Nyack) off ramp
• Wednesday and Thursday, September 17 and 18 — the southbound entrance at Exit 10 (South Nyack). Posted detour signs will direct motorists to Exit 11 (off Route 59 in Nyack).
• Friday, September 19 — northbound off ramp at exit 10 (South Nyack)

Additional lane closings occur during evening hours, mostly from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., save for exceptions, per the weekly project update.

This afternoon, an E-ZPass® lane on the far right offered me a yellow smiley face, and I grinned. Does that happen to you, too? I’d like to know what you think.
