This Week: Lane Closings, Shifts and Detours

Saturday brought rain — as kids, we’d splash in puddles to see how far the water would fly — and this week brings traffic alerts, detailed in the December 5 press release.

Tomorrow, December 9, two northbound lanes on I-87/I-287 will close at 8 p.m., a third will close at 10:30 p.m., and all will reopen on Wednesday (December 10) at 4:30 a.m.

Note: The Exit 9 on-ramp from Route 119 in Tarrytown will also close during this time. One detour is approximately 1.5 miles east on Route 119/White Plains Road to Exit 8A in Elmsford per map below. OK if you’re in that area.

My suggestion if you’re already in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow:

Take Benedict Avenue at South Broadway through to Route 119/White Plains Road in Greenburgh. Turn left at the light, and continue to I-87/I-287 north/west (sign is on the left).

Since August, six lighted channel markers have guided them to and from the Piermont shore. Off-limits is the U.S. Coast Guard’s Safety Zone; know the expanded Regulated Navigation Area (RNA).

Check out the Coast Guard’s weekly Local Notice to Mariners, excerpted and in its entirety, listed under Boater Safety Information on the project’s website. A LNM primer is here.

I’d like to know what you think.
