Overnight Lane Closures, Intermittent Delays

Yesterday, I drove to Nyack to meet a friend for lunch. I was late because of the traffic jam leading to the bridge. Who’d have thought one left lane — that we know ends and use anyway — would cause such congestion?

While there’s no need to do that Christmas Eve Day through December 28 — all lanes will be open thanks to Governor Cuomo’s Drivers First Initiative — tonight’s a different story.

An overhead sign gantry’s coming down, and for safety reasons, all lanes in both directions will be stopped for a series of 20-minute closures from 11:59 p.m. to tomorrow at 6 a.m. Project officials said the New York State Police will stop and hold all traffic approaching the work site immediately before the closures go into effect. You’ll be able to enter the Thruway from all ramps during the closures.

Additionally, two southbound lanes will close at 9 p.m. (a few hours from now), a third will close at midnight, and all will reopen tomorrow at 7 a.m.

I’d like to know what you think.
