Project officials said the lane and ramp closures originally scheduled for overnight tonight in Rockland and Thursday in Westchester are postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled another time.

Since last month’s batch plant accident, concrete for foundations near Rockland’s South Nyack shorelines is from local concrete suppliers. The project’s leading supplier of stone, Tilcon New York, temporarily ceased deliveries and removed its moored barges. There has been “no resumption of deliveries yet,” company spokesman Geoff Thompson said via email January 16.

It was very cool seeing the first batch plant during a media tour last August. This story was shared on Twitter and LinkedIn and among engineering groups.

Construction crews continue assembling the formwork for the new bridge’s abutment on the Rockland shoreline. And pile driving for the new foundations is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays; occasionally, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

Check out the Coast Guard’s weekly Local Notice to Mariners, excerpted and in its entirety, listed under Boater Safety Information on the New NY Bridge website. A LNM primer is here. Details about ongoing work are here.

As TZC moves into its second month without both batch plants mixing and pouring, it remains to be seen (1) if the bridge builder is eating into buffer time allotted for unforeseen occurrences, like this one, (2) how and if it will affect TZC’s strict schedule, and (3) what are the time consequences moving forward.

I’d like to know what you think.
