Last week the first cables were installed on some of the towers you’ll see when driving by, and maybe have a better chance to see when you’re stuck in traffic.

I digress.

It will take 12 pairs of stay cables on each side of the bridge’s towers to support the main span road. Imagine 700 miles of metal strands . . . that’s a lot of miles.

Accident aftermath: all seven lanes of the bridge are open and sooner than anticipated, thanks to expedited repairs after a crane collapsed last Tuesday and caused structural damage. There’s an ongoing investigation to find out what happened.
